In the early days of dating my now husband, I had a trip booked with a friend to travel through India for a month. Still in the love-bird stage, this month was going to feel like forever!
Being a traveler himself, my before-I-knew-it husband had a few travel songs that he always listened to on the road. He insisted I put them on my iPod, and they soon enough became my favourite travel songs too. These songs were prefect for ‘living the dream’.
Fast forward 6 years later and we’re packing our bags for another adventure together; this time with our two kids in tow.
We live in France now, and have been here long enough that the French pop music I hear on the radio has grown on me. My husband knows this, along with my love for cheesy 80’s music, so as I’m packing he announces that he’s got a new travel song for me.
As the synthesizer chimes in, I can’t help laugh as this 80’s French pop tune about traveling takes over our house.
The song has become our family travel anthem without meaning too. It’s a joke that got carried away. All it took was a few times of it appearing out of the blue for a laugh while packing, or as we’re road tripping. Now when we’re prepping for a holiday our kids have caught onto our little joke. “Put on Voyage, Voyage!” our older daughter chirps as they both bounce from suitcase to suitcase, unpacking each item that I have put into the luggage, while they climb in and see if they can fit.
I’m not gonna lie; when they ask, I put it on every. single. time. Not just because they want to hear it; but like Pavlov’s dog, I’ve had classical conditioning to love this song because it now gets me excited to be traveling.
Have a listen. Give it at least until the chorus, and once you get past judging me for loving such a weird song, try to tell me it’s not catchy. If it helps, you can picture me doing embarrassing killer dance moves to this song, as I throw half the contents of our house into the open suitcases that surround me.
And here’s the remix. I like it better….but now that I saw the video, maybe not so much. I think I’ll just stick to the audio version….although she does have great hair. 😉
So? What do you think? How about you? What song is your “Voyage, Voyage?”
Love it! My choices are also a bit weird. If we are going on a beach vacation, I have to listen to Michael Franks’ “Woman in the Waves” and Sean Kingston’s “Take You There.” The former reminds me of St. Barth’s and Hawaii and the latter reminds me of my now teenage son listening to Sean Kingston non-stop the first time we went to the Bahamas.
Great post! I love the question of what people listen to for travel music.

Now you have me wanting to listen to those! 😉
