If you’ve ever stayed at a hotel in Europe the first thing you’ll probably have noticed is the size. or lack there of! If you’re from North America, you might be surprised to find that hotels in Europe only have one large bed, not two. The rooms are generally made for sleeping 2 people.
For a couple of years our family traveled throughout Europe being able to get a regular room and squeeze in a babycot.
Now that we’re a family of four, we are no longer able to fit in a regular European hotel room. We either need the space of a suite, or two adjoining rooms; but those can be difficult to find in many hotels.
Imagine my delight when we arrived at Ambassador à L’Opera in Zurich and were shown to our room…or should I say rooms!!!We didn’t have one entrance to our hotel room. We had THREE! There was going to be no shortage on space here!
These three quaintly decorated rooms were all connected inside, leaving us plenty of room for our suitcases to be opened, and the kids to play. Two luxuries that are usually hard to come by because of space.
This was our bed in the first room. Looks like your standard hotel room bed right?
Each side of the bed had its own remote control that let you move your head or your feet up and down. I don’t know who had more fun playing with this, us or the kids.
The bed was also fantastic because it came with a pillow menu. They left a card to be filled out and left on the bed for turn down service. You could choose from 6 different pillow types, whether you would like lavender or eucalyptus spray and if you would like them to close the outside roller blinds for you. They had it all covered!I love checking out the bathrooms when we get to a new hotel. Will the bath products be good? Will there be enough towels? Will there be a tub for the kids? The answer was yes to all my questions. In fact, we had two bathrooms in this room. One with a tub for the kids, and the other with a shower. It was perfect. There were heated towel racks, tons of bath products and conditioner. I love it when they have conditioner instead of a 2 in 1 shampoo…it’s the little things!Back in the room, my girls had already dove into the apples that were set out for us and they were now exploring where they’d be sleeping. There was one bed in the middle room, along with a TV, desk and amazing view of the Zurich opera house. The girls were also kept busy with the gift bags they received, full of crayons, paper cut outs, stickers and colouring pages. Thankfully, those gift bags came with us kept them entertained through dinner as well! The final room was smaller, but perfect for a kids room. It had a small bed and also fit a crib. But the best part was the great view from the desk. When we were done exploring our room, we went up one floor to the rooftop patio. What a great space! Lounge chairs, yoga mats, and an amazing view! After a long day of site seeing, we came back to find that we were treated to Swiss chocolates on each night stand, our pillow order filled and lavender pillow spray, just as requested. The chocolates quickly disappeared and we opened our bedroom window to watch the sun set on Lake Zurich.
It was a wonderful stay in the heart of the city.
Thank you to the Ambassador à L’Opera for hosting us as guests. All opinions are my own.
A pillow menu?! That’s my dream!!! (no pun intended 😉 hehe) What a lovely hotel and how wonderful to be able to spread out like that. Space makes all the difference when traveling with littles! Thanks so much for sharing!
It was fantastic!
What?? No teddy bears? I was thinking the girlies must have a million bears from the wonderful trips you have taken…then I saw the pic on twitter!! Funny!!
How nice that you could travel with ma and pa…the whole lot of you are never going to be able to return here!! 🙂
Haha. Nope, none this time, but gift packages and apples, so just as good! 🙂
