Can I get a drum roll please!!!!!!!!
I started writing this book about a year and a half ago, in the passenger seat of our camping car, with a laptop on my knees, as we drove through the Skeleton Coast in Namibia. I was so inspired by the beauty of the country that I knew this book had to be born before our trip was even over.
In case you didn’t know, each book in the series, The Kids Who Travel the World, is inspired by actual trips we’ve taken as a family. This allows me to send my illustrator pictures from our travels that you later see in the books.
The Kids Who Travel the World: African Safari is available TODAY on Amazon! And inside the pages, you will find incredibly well done illustrations, based on these actual pictures from our travels. Living in Congo and not having access to a postal system makes for a challenge in receiving a physical proof of the book. But eventually a friend went home to France on the last school holiday and I had it delivered to her house. Except, she didn’t end up coming back, so she put it in the hands of one of her French friends, who was also in France for holidays, and when she came back to Congo I tracked her down, in search of my fifth book-baby in this series.
If you can’t take your kids on an African Safari, bring the safari to them!

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my second set of eyes, Catriona Turner. She’s been my expat sister in France(twice) and again here in Congo. You might know her as The Frustrated Nester and contributing author in Once Upon an Expat, but to me, she’s my copy editor and I will be very sad not to be able to pop over to her house with my laptop in hand and reap the benefits of her word wizardry. Follow Catriona on Facebook and Instagram because she’s also on the move, and about to announce her next expat location, where she plans to continue working as a copy editor. Maybe this time you will be the lucky one who will be her neighbour!
And lastly, thank YOU for reading and for your support!
Congratulations, Lisa! Looks like another fun adventure and I agree that Catriona is an international treasure!
What a great idea to have a series like that — so kids who do not travel can get an idea of what goes on in other corners of the world and to expand their minds. Perhaps inspire them to go explore as they grow older. So big kudos to you!
